About Otumoetai Hockey
Otumoetai Hockey is a well established club, with 2024 marking the celebration of 45 years.
Our players range in age and experience, from secondary students, to players returning after big breaks, to national and masters representatives.
We love our hockey, are always up for learning new skills and enjoy socialising together. We’re set for a big year in 2026 - come join us!
Timeline

1974
First founded in 1974 as Otumoetai Collegiate, the purpose was to accomodate players whom were leaving Otumoetai College and weren’t expecting to grain significant game time with an established senior club.
Founding members include: John Howie, Les Diggleman, Grant Jacobson, Wally Christopherson, and Malcolm Wise. Some of these members still have an active association with the club. -
1977
Otumoetai Collegiate Club name changed to Otumoetai Old Boys.
Players included Keith McGowan, Neil Tutbury, Robin Neal, Jeff Garnett, Darcy Sharplin and Gavin Neal.

1981
OHC’s Men's team reached final of the Airest club Competition played at Hobson Park Auckland losing to a strong Auckland team containing several of the Olympic games gold medal winning team.

1984
OHC’s Men's team reached final of the Countrywide club tournament played at Hobson Park Auckland losing against the prominent Somerville Club which contained several players from the 1976 Olympic gold winning team.

1986
Otumoetai Old Boys combined with Old Girls to form Otumoetai Hockey Club. The purpose of this merge was to combine the coaching, financial and fundraising resources of both clubs.
The founding president of the combined club was; Robin Neal, and Treasurer; Beverly Marra.Officials included Murray Poole, Wayne Laurance (Men’s club capt) and Julie Stovold (Women’s Club Captain.)

2005
Otumoetai Hockey Club became incorporated. The purpose was to assist achieving funding from various gaming charities. President; Graeme Bigham, Treasurer; Murray Poole.
OHC Mens team won the regional intercity competition defeating Kohekohe in final. -
2009 - 2013
OHC’s Women's team won the regional intercity competition.

2013
OHC’s Mens team won the regional intercity competition defeating Mount Maunganui in final.

2014
OHC’s Mens team won the regional intercity competition defeating Thames Valley in final.
OHC’s Women's team were runners up of the regional intercity competition.
From 2013-2017 Otumoetai men were the highest placed Tauranga team in the Inter City competition. -
2019
Otumoetai Hockey is a well established club, with 2019 marking the celebration of 45 years.
